October 18th - Renate Malveaux

Renate Malveaux thought her vote for president was decided, but since “Joe the Plumber” has evolved from rope liner to philosophical juggernaut, Malveaux has become suspicious of the role of government, and is second guessing her initial assumptions about the candidates.

When it comes to the issues, Malveaux, 28, is specifically concerned about the future of the health care system and what each candidate will provide in terms of reforming and possibly socializing the current system.

“As someone who didn’t have health insurance, I know how important coverage is to have,” Malveaux said. “But at the same time I am worried about which direction the country will go with these plans.”

Malveaux, who is currently insured under her group plan with Delta Airlines, where she works as a flight attendant for the eastern corridor, thinks that the Obama plan is far reaching. That concern is being echoed on the stump speeches of Senator McCain who continually refers to Senator Obama’s recent comment that he wanted to “share the wealth.”

Those opposed to the Obama health care plan point to  potentially lengthy wait times for medical procedures that already prevalent in other wealthy nations who have single-payer health care systems. McCain’s plan might not reach far enough, said Malveaux, citing that there ware several people who may still be left uninsured.

Despite some trepidation about socializing of the health care system, Malveaux said, “My ears are open until Election Day,”
